we can use stories to change systems

I primarily write creative non-fiction essays and talks that weave together my lived and embodied experiences, community knowledge and research-informed analysis. My work straddles the boundaries between the creative and the academic, though you’re more likely to find me sharing a first-person story than writing a journal article. I’m inspired by the idea we can use stories to change systems. My newest book, The Care We Dream Of: Liberatory and Transformative Approaches to LGBTQ+ Health, was published by Arsenal Pulp Press in the fall of 2021.

You can find examples of my writing on my blog.

community formation via anthology

I’ve edited two anthologies that explore queer and trans identities, lives and experiences - The Remedy: Queer and Trans Voices on Health and Health Care and Persistence: All Ways Butch and Femme (co-edited with Ivan Coyote). As Hannah McGregor, Julie Rak and Erin Wunker write in their introduction, Refuse: CanLit in Ruins, this kind of editorial work is both community-formation and care work. I see anthologies as a form of dialogue, both among the essays and with each reader, and I’m grateful for my role in bringing these books into the world. It’s a privilege and a responsibility that I take seriously.
